THE WALTER MAXWELL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Dr Walter Maxwell 2022

Dr. Walter Maxwell is a graduate of the Sunset International Bible Institute, then known as Sunset School of Preaching. Upon completing his studies, he began serving as Evangelist and Minister at the Roosevelt/ Freeport Christ of Christ and has continued in this role for the past 50 years. In addition to his ministerial duties, Bro. Maxwell previously held the position of X-ray technician at Nassau University Medical Center (formally known as, Nassau County Medical Center). In this position, he assisted in the diagnosis of medical conditions with radiographic procedures and trained physicians and students to utilize correct techniques. Although he was immensely successful in his secular career, he thought it was more important to “heal souls rather than bodies". As a result, he retired from his job in 1988 and dedicated his Full-time efforts to being a “fisher of men” in Western Long Island and the Tri-State  area. Over the past 4 decades, Bro. Maxwell’s influence has been far-reaching. Under his leadership, congregations in Far Rockaway, NY; Glen Cove, NY and Scotland Neck, NC were established. He has been a speaker at the National Churches of Christ Lectureship and has been a frequent guest lecturer at congregations in Bermuda, Trinidad, Puerto Rico, Antigua, and Jamaica, West Indies. In an effort to fulfil the great commission, the Roosevelt – Freeport Church of Christ became one of the first congregations to host an Associate School (satellite campus) for the Sunset International Bible Institute. This collaboration made it possible to for men in the Northeast who desire to become gospel preachers to study, obtain certifications, then serve as missionaries and as evangelist in the United States and around the world. On September 27th , 2019 Brother Walter Maxwell received an Honorary Doctor of Leadership from the Sunset International Bible Institute. Dr Walter Maxwell has a particular interest in ministering to children and families. He has been a mentor and role model to countless young people. He facilitates marriage and family workshops, with his wife of 59 years, Pauline. His matchless wit and gentle sense of humor serves him well when conducting counseling sessions and during conflict resolution. Bro Maxwell proudly serves on the board of the Timothy Hill Children’s Ranch, a residential program for at-risk and adjudicated youth. He lovingly uses his own life experiences as a parent of 11 children, father to 23 grandchildren and 10 Great grandchildren to reach people and bring them to Christ. Bro. Maxwell’s personal mission is to: “To Reach as Many as Possible with The Gospel and Train Men to Do the Same” In March 2015 the Walter Maxwell Scholarship Fund was established. The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to the Sunset International Bible Institute in Lubbock, Texas.
